ECVnet - The European computer vision network
1995-1998
The group was a primary node (one of 12) of The European Computer Vision Network - ECVnet (An Esprit Network of Excellence) in 1995-1998.
ECVnet was an association of public, private and industrial research laboratories devoted to the advancement of science and technology of computer vision in Europe.
The goals of the network were:
- To incite development of the technology needed for the use of computer vision within the European Union,
- To assist in the transfer of technology between public research institutions, technology suppliers and end-users, and
- To coordinate and consolidate basic and applied research in computer and biological vision within the European Union.
In 1997, our group organized an ECVnet sponsored international Workshop on Technology Transfer in Machine Vision (chairman Prof. Olli Silvén) in Lappeenranta, Finland. Prof. Pietikäinen was a member of the management board of the network.
